Act now on Water and Sanitation:

Clean water and decent sanitation are fundamental to life. So it’s staggering that in our world one-third of the population don’t have access to a decent toilet, and many women in Africa and Asia still have to walk for hours a day to collect water to drink.

It’s an injustice that needs to end.
Too often, those in power have forgotten the issue of water and sanitation. World leaders have overlooked the fact that, without better access to water and sanitation, around the world we'll struggle to reduce the number of children who die before their fifth birthday, achieve universal education, or remove the unnecessary burden placed on clinics and hospitals.

This needs to end
Later this year, governments from across the world will meet together at the first annual high-level meeting on water and sanitation. This is a vital opportunity to agree what more needs to be a done to put an end to this scandal, but we need to show that around the world people are calling for extraordinary action

Take action now by adding your name to our message to Prime Minister John Key. Join Christians around the world calling on him to do all he can can to improve access to clean water and decent sanitation around the world.

Dear Prime Minister,

For every $1 spent on sanitation and water, an economy gains an estimated $8 in achieving better education, increased productivity and reduced health costs.

Yet 40% of the world’s population lives without access to a safe toilet and almost a billion are still waiting for clean water. While this global scandal continues, too many countries will fail to achieve the Millennium Development Goals – that’s millions of girls not going to school and millions of children dying before their fifth birthday.

It doesn’t add up.

Be a sanitation champion - Support the development of a Global Framework for Action to drive progress towards achieving the MDGs and ensure the New Zealand government attends the annual high-level meeting in the Autumn.

Pay our fair share - ensure the New Zealand government help countries develop plans to provide sanitation and water for their citizens and secure the financial support to deliver them.
